Surface Pro X compatability for digital certificate/signing

I want to upgrade to the new Surface pro X that has been announced for release in November 2019 and to use it for signing.

Is the digital signing certificate & hardware (Charismathics Virtual Smart Card CSSI) compatible with the Microsoft
Surface Pro X, running the SQ1 processor (ARM)  based on Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8cx laptop chip?

There is no problem using a compatable web browser & it has 2 x  Type C USB ports (can use an adaptor or hub to convert to USB A) and runs  Windows 10 Home.  8 or 16gb Ram. The issue is ARM instruction set. It might be that the software needs to be re-compiled for Arm.

Charismathics promotes their product as being Multi Platform Fully Windows Compliant plus support for Mac, Linux, Embedded and Mobile platforms.

Solution

Re: Surface Pro X compatability for digital certificate/signing

Hi David,

I understand ARM does not support old 64-bit applications. We do have a 32-bit version of the PEXA Signing software that you could use in the interim if we do not have an updated version at that point, so we will have you covered.

Cheers

Re: Surface Pro X compatability for digital certificate/signing

Hi @DavidLeamey

Yes you can sign on the Surface Pro as it is effectively a laptop and not a tablet.

It looks great too btw!

Re: Surface Pro X compatability for digital certificate/signing

When you say Surface Pro do you include the Surface Pro X which is an ARM based device ie different from the Surface PRo 3, 4, 5 & 6. Just clarifying.

Re: Surface Pro X compatability for digital certificate/signing

Hi  I got a Surface Pro X signing today. The only issue was the Digital signing software that initially failed. i downloaded the alternative software. it still failed. i rebooted. played with the small app and after reregistering the certificate it worked. Perhaps it was because it was not a new usb. i was using Edge Canary. no problems at all. Success.
