Patching is a set of changes to a computer program or its supporting data. It updates, fixes, or improves the program or data and fixes security vulnerabilities and other bugs. For example, Google Chrome requires users to manually perform updates as they become available.
By patching known vulnerabilities you reduce your risk of becoming compromised. By Patching consistently you will reduce the risk of hackers exploiting vulnerabilities that have been remediated.
Patches are provided by the operating system\browsers and other applications. Most operating systems, by default, will automatically apply patches when a system is restarted. If not speak with your IT professional to enable automatic updates.
