Backpacks 4 SA Kids exists to provide resources that contribute to the care, safety and wellbeing of children and young people during periods of dislocation from home and routine care. They are currently assisting well over 4,500 children per year who are in need. Their aim is to provide a backpack full of useful items that these children, can call their own, providing reassurance and comfort from their changing worlds. The backpacks they provide help to relieve some of the stress and anxiety children face when they are removed from their family, often in traumatic situations and without the opportunity to take any personal belongings with them.
All work in the organisation is undertaken in their warehouse by volunteers who sort, store and pack donated goods into backpacks, one of which goes to each child. This month the SA PEXA Team joined one of their volunteer Packing & Sorting Sessions, where we were encouraged to visualise the child receiving the backpack to help us create something special for each one. Together we packed 16 special backpacks, that will be going out to children in need this week. 💙
Clothing, toys, books & other donations can be made, or you can volunteer your time too, just visit www.backpacks4sakids.org for all of the information.
