I am a solicitor operating a sole practice in Brisbane. I have no staff, and use DragonDictate to produce documents. A casual bookkeeper is all I need. Those of you who are in very small firms or sole practices would be aware of the issues I had when I was faced with a decision as to whether or not to postpone a long-planned visit to my son and daughter-in-law who were working in Toronto for 12 months, or to delay the trip because of a settlement of a house which was brought on a most inconvenient time for a long- term and very important client of mine. Those in this position would know that if you pass a client on to another practitioner, chances are the client will be lost. I had been trying to engage other practitioners in using PEXA for some time in other matters without success. On this occasion, the other practitioner requested me to use it and I was attempted to contact them to advise that notwithstanding my previous attempts to engage with PEXA, on this occasion I would have to give it a miss and pass the file to another firm. However, Daniel Arnfield, a PEXA Direct Specialist in Brisbane, convinced me that it would be possible to do the settlement from Toronto. And so it was. It was my first PEXA settlement, and was far easier than I expected even from the other side of the world. It appears that sole practitioners can now take an overseas holiday and provided they have access to the Internet can continue doing their conveyancing as they would if they were sitting in their Queen Street office. Several things were particularly noticeable. Firstly, the PEXA system converts or dates and times to your current location. Therefore you know exactly where you are in terms of the time of day at your present location rather than having to second-guess time and date conversions. Secondly, I was extremely impressed with the assistance and support provided by all at PEXA, particularly Daniel.
