Cure Brain Cancer Foundation is an Australian-based organisation, which is working globally to rapidly improve brain cancer survival. The Foundation’s mission is to increase five-year brain cancer survival from the current 20 per cent to 50 per cent by 2023 with a vision to ultimately find a cure for brain cancer.
Brain cancer kills more children than any other disease in Australia. It also kills more people under 40 in Australia than any other cancer. The survival rates are low and have hardly changed for 30 years, despite significant increases in survival for Australians diagnosed with other types of cancer, such as prostate and breast cancer. Treatment is challenging because it affects our most vital organ. Brain cancer costs more per person than any other cancer, yet only receives a small fraction of federal government cancer research funding.
This year the PEXA Team joined Sophie’s Walk 4 Brain Cancer, who is a very close friend of mine. Sophie has fought the long fight of Brain Cancer for the past 5 years with an inoperable Brain Tumor. From the words of her brother, Sam, “If you want to know the definition of strength, look no further than Sophie Harris”.
We gathered with friends, family and a few of our PEXA members, at Largs Bay Beach, and we walked 5 km together to Semaphore Beach and back again.
Congratulations and well done to Sophie, who has raised just over $3,000.00 this year which will be going towards brain cancer research, advocacy and awareness.
